PostSubject: Richys Sub project....   Richys Sub project.... Icon_minitimeThu Aug 14, 2008 11:02 am

truely inspired by the cabron fiber set up that tweaked ice did, id like to do somthign similar.

as some of you know my dad isnt to hot about me doing preformance mods to my car, since they could possibly void the warranty.
id like to keep it a sleeper so not much to do looks wise.
so i figure id focus on the inside
and since i love music i think i wana get a sub system in there!

and i have a peice of cabron fiber in my garadge...
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/Dirtfreak15/S7300079.jpg

its fairly large
based on the tweaked ice project, i think im gonna probably do the two outer peices in CF and then the center will be either wood with swade or somthin.. idk
i dont want to blow a ton of money on this, cuz there are other things i wana do to my car... but i dont want to cheap out either..

so if anybody can teach me the ratings of subs and amps... whats ohm? how much wattage is good, bad? overkill?

ive been lookin aroud for a while, and i have no idea if this is good or bad, yoshi said stay away from polk lol
i have a friend with dual 10" kickers and it makes my ear tickle when im in his truck, seems good to me lol

so sub..

amp will this get the job done?
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=113KAC6202&tp=115

i know i need a capacitor but idk anything at all about them so im not even gonna try to look. lol
i have a general understanding of what they do though.

and how much are neons? like 2 strips of blue..?

i should be getting my anniversary check for work and its gonna be nice, so if i go underway with this i shoudl be able to buy 1 or two components soon.
and then ill wait till i got more money for the rest.

lmk
any input is welcomed Smile
and ill be at the beach on the 20th so we can talk about it more there Smile
just thought id start exploring and learning so when i got the money i know what to do with it lo

I would skip on the Capacitors unless you plan on running a lot of power but with one sub and amp I think it would be useless for you. With car Audio you get what you pay and this is really true for amps. If you went with a kicker sub id also get a kicker amp. Ive been told its better to match subs and amp together they are made to work better together. Another thing I would add get a little bigger amp than you would need its better to have more power for it than to under power it. I just have one 10inch Pioneer sub in my truck with a big infinity amp over powering the sub by like 200-300watts. I have friends that have two 12s in there cars and when they go for a ride in my car they tell me my audio sounds really good and when they find out I only have 1 10inch sub theres jaws drop hahaha. The ohms - well the easiest for me to explain it is say you have a 2ohm sub and a 4ohm sub and an amp that can run 2ohm or 4ohm. If you set up the amp to power the 2ohm it would get more power from the amp and if you had it set up for the 4ohm it wouldnt get as much power. I hope some of this makes since and lets hear some other opioins

well i went to frys today and i was talking to one of the guys in the car audio place....
he new his stuff very well, u can tell
and we kinda came up with a set up, but i need to find a cheaper amp, he was suggesting one for $299, and he found another one that was $199 but he said that one would underpower it by about 100watts.

i spent about $160 on just a sub today :o
ill post pics in a minute, u guys need to help me find a amp!! for under 200 bucks
ill post pics and specs of the sub i bought in a little while so we can determine what i need.

i remember he said it needs to be mono, and it needs to have an RMS of 400-500 to sounds its best.

i was under the impression mono wasnt as good as 2 channel... (for a single sub)
he said mono was better...
all i know was i listened to it at the store and it was putting out some hella deep bass!!

well here it is!
when i was at the store this one was deeper and louder then any other one there, except the dual set ups of course.

Kicker CompVR
Details:

* 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils
* injection-molded polypropylene cone
* ribbed Santoprene rubber surround
* suitable for marine use
* power handling: 50-400 watts RMS (200 watts per coil)
* 800 watts peak power handling
* frequency response: 25-500 Hz
* sensitivity: 86.7 dB
* top-mount depth: 6-1/4"
* sealed box volume: 1.0-4.6 cu. ft.
* ported box volume: 1.75-2.25 cu. ft.

this was the amp i believe he was suggesting...

this was the other that he said would work good but be underpowering the amp
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=2068ZX3001&search=Kicker+VENDORID206&searchdisplay=Kicker&tp=115

how important is it to actualy match up the sub and amp?
cuz i am gonna have to try pretty hard just to buy the amp at $199 lol
i still need a capacitor and materials!

pics of my sub

ok i returned the sub
even if its the correct one i needed which i dont think it was i can get the same one for less online.

but im re thinking my layout
im thinking about a box, cuz every once and a while i do need to put things in my trunk
so i want somthing thats detachable but still showy.

i have a really good idea in my head, i just need to draw it out

as for the system, how would these two work out together...

Kicker CVR 12"
400 watt rms
dual 2ohm coils

amp - Kicker ZX400.1 class D MONO
400 watts rms @ 2ohm
200 Watts rms @ 4ohm

i can bridge the 400 watts @ 2ohm to my two coils so that they are each getting 200 watts rms @ 2ohm each... right???!!??

lmk, im gonna buy it either this comming friday or the next...

ok here is my design!
its gonna be all wood
the width of my trunk, up against the back seats all the way.
where the amp and the capacitor go, i will have carbon fiber cut outs to go over the wood for show, and also where the carbon fiber is will be indented like 6 or so inches and then there will be neons tucked under the sides to shine on the carbon fiber and the capacitor and amp
and then the wood will be wrapped with some kinda material
